NBC "Football Night in America" analyst Rodney Harrison talked with the Post's Justin Trinova about the Jets without Revise, with Baryon and his thoughts on Rex Ryan, whom he called out before the season.
Q: Before the season you ripped Rex Ryan for talking trash, but not having to get on the field to back up his trash talk. Still feel that way?
A: Well it's obvious the players don't care about the pressure because football jerseys
they came back from a disappointing loss against the Ravens and beat the Patriots. So, obviously he knows what he's doing. People are giving me a hard time because they say I don't like Rex -I love Rex. If I was ever a defensive coordinator, I would marvel at the opportunity to learn from him. I love the pressure defense. I coach 6-year-olds and I am trying to emulate his defense. I would have loved to play for Ryan.
Q: Should the Jets have suspended Baryon Edwards for Sunday's game?
A: You have to understand that your decisions impact other San Francisco 49ers jersey
people and there should be some kind of discipline with that. But he has enough to deal with in terms of the backlash with the fans; embarrassment with the family and being a distraction to your team because then your teammates has to answer questions about you. As a football player, you want to pride yourself on not being a distraction to your team.
Q: Can the Jets survive without Darrell Revise this week?
A: Well, now you are going to put Antonio Cromarty on Brandon Marshall. But Marshall is not having a spectacular year because his quarterback (Chad Henna) isn't very good right now. I don't think it will be the passing game that will beat the Jets on Sunday. If Revise was to miss a game this is the week to do it.
Q: So, what does concern you about the Dolphins' offense?
A: Stopping the wildcat and stopping the Dolphins' trickery. The Jets have to understand their zones and coverage’s and not giving up a big, cheap easy play. If I'm Rex Ryan I'm loading up the box and I'm pressuring, forcing Henna to pass the ball 30 times. I am not going to allow one of those cheap wildcat runs with a missed tackle to turn into a touchdown.
Q: What was the difference between Mark Sanchez in Week 1 and 2?
A: That's the thing with Sanchez: you don't know what you are Buffalo Bills jersey
going to get. This week it feels like (offensive coordinator) Brian Schottenheimer brought him to the side and said, "You know what. We are going to play football. If you throw an interception, we'll get back out there and keep pressing. We are going to take it to the Patriots. We are going to open it for you." And as a player you like to feel that confidence instilled in you from a coach. When that happens and you start connecting those plays; you never know how good this kid can be.
