Manchester United bid to end Spain jinx

MADRID (AFP) - Manchester United look to end their miserable European record in Spain on Wednesday as they search for their first Champions League win of the season at Spanish league leaders Valencia.
United have won just once in 18 matches in Spain against Spanish nfl jerseys
opposition, with their only win coming in the 2001-02 Champions League quarter-final first leg at Deportivo La Coruna.
They will have their work cut out against an unbeaten Valencia side who have won four out of their first five league matches to top the Spanish top flight.
United coach Sir Alex Ferguson watched his side labour to a 0-0 draw against Rangers in their Group C opener and will hope for more attacking bite at Valencia, as well as more defensive stability than they have shown of late.
The three-time European champions have conceded seven goals in their last three league matches and will be well aware that Valencia trounced Bursaspor 4-0 in Turkey in their group opener.Cowboys jersey

"Yes, we're concerned about the number of goals we have let in," said defender Nemanja Vidic.
"Over the last few years we haven't conceded many goals. We always looked strong and we didn't give teams many chances. But in the last few away games we haven't kept clean sheets, which is very disappointing."
At the other end of the pitch, United will be missing both Welsh winger Ryan Giggs and England striker Wayne Rooney, after both players sustained injuries in the 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers on Sunday.
Giggs succumbed to a hamstring problem, while Rooney was withdrawn in the 61st minute after picking up a knock to his ankle.
Ferguson watched Valencia live in their 1-1 home draw with Atletico Madrid Chargers jersey
five days ago and admits it is a key game for his side, knowing Valencia could go five points ahead of them with victory.
"Drawing with Rangers makes the Valencia match far more important than it would have been," said Ferguson.
Former England international striker Michael Owen scored the equaliser in the draw at Bolton and he could be called upon to partner in-form Dimitar Berbatov in Rooney's absence.
Valencia are unbeaten in 11 European home matches and have started the season in fine form with 13 points from a possible 15 to top La Liga ahead of champions Barcelona.
Valencia, Champions League finalists in 2000 and 2001, sold Spanish World Cup stars David Silva and David Villa for 70 million euros in the summer but their new signings have adapted well and given the club five wins from six in all competitions.
"The players are grasping that the most important thing is the team and not the individuals and that is the key to the good start," said Valencia coach Unai Emery.
Valencia have conceded only three goals in their six games so far and part of that is down to 39-year-old goalkeeper Cesar Sanchez, who started the 2002 Champions League final for Real Madrid before getting injured and being replaced by Iker Casillas.
"We know it is not going to be an easy match since we are playing one of Bears jersey
the favourites to become European champions," said Cesar.
"If we want to carry on moving forward and get to the last 16 we have to be strong at the Mestalla."

Titans take advantage of Giants mistakes, 29-10

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—The Tennessee Titans wanted a bounce back game and the New York Giants helped them get it.
A week after Tennessee turned over the ball seven times in a loss to Pittsburgh, Chris Johnson ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns, Vince Young(notes) threw a touchdown and the Titans didn’t lose the ball once in a 29-10 win Sunday over the error-prone and undisciplined Giants.
The aggressive Titans (2-1) forced three turnovers, including two nfl jersey
inside their 6-yard line, and agitated the Giants (1-2) so much that New York was flagged for five personal fouls.
“This Tennessee defense, we play hard. We play physical,” said safety Michael Griffin(notes), who forced a key fumble by Ahmad Bradshaw(notes) in the third quarter at the Titans 5. “Look at the stats, they don’t look pretty. Look at that score, it looks very nice. We did get in their heads a little bit.”
The victory was the 10th straight against an NFC opponent for the Titans and their fifth straight over the Giants.
The Giants were their own worst enemy. They missed two field goals; gave Tennessee a safety with a chop block in the end zone; and had the parade of personal fouls, including two by offensive tackle Kareem McKenzie(notes) that led to him being yanked from the game. There was also one against Brandon Jacobs(notes) that didn’t count because it was offset by one against the Titans.
“All the personal fouls, we took advantage of that today,” said linebacker Stephen Tulloch(notes), who had 13 tackles. “They have a good team over there. I know Tom Coughlin will get them right.”
This was the Giants’second straight stinker. They were blown out by Indianapolis 38-14 last Sunday night in the second Manning Bowl.
“The way in which we play in between the lines is my responsibility and I’m taking full responsibility for that,” Coughlin said. “This is a game that we should have won we didn’t win.”
The Giants, who got a 50-yard field goal from Lawrence Tynes(notes) and a 10-yard touchdown run by Ahmad Bradshaw in a 10-10 opening half, outgained the Titans 471-271.
“We beat ourselves,” defensive captain Justin Tuck(notes) said. “You have to give Tennessee credit for taking advantage of our miscues. I think we outplayed them, but it doesn’t matter. They scored 29 points and we scored 10. Turnovers, penalities, missed assignments. You name it and we probably did it today.”
The mistakes made the one-sided yardage figures meaningless.
The go-ahead score came early in the third quarter. On a third-and-10 from the Indianapolis Colts jersey
Giants 1, Manning found Mario Manningham(notes) for a 44-yard pass down the sideline. But the play was nullified when Bradshaw was flagged for a chop block in the end zone, which resulted in a safety.
“Sometimes you are going to get beat and that is one thing, and sometimes the other team makes a play,” said Giants quarterback Eli Manning(notes) (34 of 48 for 386 yards). “But when you hurt yourself it is hard to overcome those things.”
Rookie Matt Dodge(notes) sent a line-drive 53-yard punt on the ensuing free kick and Marc Mariani(notes) returned it 22 yards to the Titans 49. Six plays later Young, who was lifted in the loss to the Steelers, hit Kenny Britt(notes) on a 13-yard touchdown pass for a 19-10 lead.Colts jersey

The Giants had a chance to get back in the game on the next possession, but Bradshaw, who had runs of 22 and 20 yards, fumbled at the Titans 5 and Alterraun Verner(notes) recovered. Giants tackle David Diehl(notes) was called for a personal foul for ripping the helmet off the head of safety Cortland Finnegan(notes).
Tynes, who missed from 53 yards in the first half, missed on a 44-yarder early in the third quarter. The wide-right kick came after New York was called for a delay of game, then a miffed McKenzie got his first personal foul after the play.
“You are always taught that they (the officials) never see the first thing, they see the retaliation,” McKenzie said. “That’s something we are well aware of and for whatever reason sometimes guys just don’t get it. Today I didn’t.”
Rob Bironas(notes) added a short field goal after the miss and Johnson, who scored on a 1-yard run in the first half, iced the game with an 8-yard run to the pylon.
Tennessee jumped to a 10-0 lead on a 48-yard field goal after lineman Sen’Derrick Marks(notes) picked off a deflected pass on the opening series. Johnson carried nine times for 35 yards on a 10-play drive that ended with his 1-yard run.
The Giants tied the game on Tynes’ long field goal and a nine-play, 63-yard Dallas Cowboys jersey
drive capped by Bradshaw’s run. ^NOTES: Giants Pro Bowl center Shaun O’Hara(notes) was out(left ankle). Special teams captain Chase Blackburn(notes) also was out (right knee). … A good day for the Titans’ former Rutgers players. Britt had two catches for 26 yards and Jason McCourty(notes) had an interception in the end zone on a pass tipped by linebacker Will Witherspoon(notes).

Call 9-1-1 Coach Labels Situation an "Emergency"

IRVING, Texas - To open Thursday's press conference here at Valley Ranch, Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips didn't wait for the obvious question to come to him.
Likely figuring he would field an inquiry on his team's sense of nfl throwback jerseys
urgency this week, Phillips provided the answer on his own.
"It's time to call 9-1-1. It's an emergency," Phillips said of the Cowboys heading into Houston on Sunday with a 0-2 record, and facing a 2-0 Texans squad. "It's time to get things going and that's where we're pointing. I think we had another good practice (Thursday)."
And Phillips isn't alone in his thinking.
"I think there's a great sense of urgency around here," said quarterback Tony Room. "This is not where you want to be after two games. We understand that you are only afforded so many opportunities. This is very important for us."
But the Cowboys aren't trying to confuse the word "urgency" with panic. Veteran linebacker Keith Brooking said the team isn't there yet. Steelers jersey

"I don't think we should panic because you don't play your Buffalo Bills jersey
best when that happens," Brooking said. "You want to be focused and you need to pay attention to every detail. But if you panic, you're not going to play at your best. We can play with some urgency without having to panic."
The Cowboys haven't started a season 0-2 since 2001, when a Dave Campo-led squad lost its first four games and limped to a 5-11 season. Of course, the Cowboys have turned a 0-2 record around for big things like they did in 1993 when they won their second straight Super Bowl despite dropping the first two games.
Last year, none of the NFL playoff teams started 0-2, but in 2008, three different clubs made the playoffs after a 0-2 start.
Phillips has experience in such a turnaround. As Buffalo's Steelers jersey
head coach in 1998, Phillips saw his Bills lose the first three games of the regular season before finishing 10-6 and advancing to the playoffs.
"I do think about that team because I thought we played three games where we could've won," said Phillips, referring back to 1998. "We lost some close games but found a way to come together and turn it around. I'm hoping we can do that here."

5 QUESTIONS FOR ... RODNEY HARRISON

Indianapolis Colts jersey
NBC "Football Night in America" analyst Rodney Harrison talked with the Post's Justin Trinova about the Jets without Revise, with Baryon and his thoughts on Rex Ryan, whom he called out before the season.
Q: Before the season you ripped Rex Ryan for talking trash, but not having to get on the field to back up his trash talk. Still feel that way?
A: Well it's obvious the players don't care about the pressure because football jerseys
they came back from a disappointing loss against the Ravens and beat the Patriots. So, obviously he knows what he's doing. People are giving me a hard time because they say I don't like Rex -I love Rex. If I was ever a defensive coordinator, I would marvel at the opportunity to learn from him. I love the pressure defense. I coach 6-year-olds and I am trying to emulate his defense. I would have loved to play for Ryan.
Q: Should the Jets have suspended Baryon Edwards for Sunday's game?
A: You have to understand that your decisions impact other San Francisco 49ers jersey
people and there should be some kind of discipline with that. But he has enough to deal with in terms of the backlash with the fans; embarrassment with the family and being a distraction to your team because then your teammates has to answer questions about you. As a football player, you want to pride yourself on not being a distraction to your team.
Q: Can the Jets survive without Darrell Revise this week?
A: Well, now you are going to put Antonio Cromarty on Brandon Marshall. But Marshall is not having a spectacular year because his quarterback (Chad Henna) isn't very good right now. I don't think it will be the passing game that will beat the Jets on Sunday. If Revise was to miss a game this is the week to do it.
Q: So, what does concern you about the Dolphins' offense?
A: Stopping the wildcat and stopping the Dolphins' trickery. The Jets have to understand their zones and coverage’s and not giving up a big, cheap easy play. If I'm Rex Ryan I'm loading up the box and I'm pressuring, forcing Henna to pass the ball 30 times. I am not going to allow one of those cheap wildcat runs with a missed tackle to turn into a touchdown.
Q: What was the difference between Mark Sanchez in Week 1 and 2?
A: That's the thing with Sanchez: you don't know what you are Buffalo Bills jersey
going to get. This week it feels like (offensive coordinator) Brian Schottenheimer brought him to the side and said, "You know what. We are going to play football. If you throw an interception, we'll get back out there and keep pressing. We are going to take it to the Patriots. We are going to open it for you." And as a player you like to feel that confidence instilled in you from a coach. When that happens and you start connecting those plays; you never know how good this kid can be.

24 sep 10 Titans QB says he’s put benching ‘in the past’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Vince Young(notes) said he still hasn’t talked with Jeff Fisher on why the Titans coach benched him for the final quarter against Pittsburgh. Young also insists he isn’t dwelling over the move either.
Young spoke to reporters Wednesday after practice nfl jerseys
and said he’s busy preparing to start when the Titans (1-1) visit the New York Giants (1-1) on Sunday. Young says he was upset about being benched for the fourth quarter in last week’s 19-11 loss to Pittsburgh when trailing 16-3.
He said he isn’t sure if it will happen again, but he isn’t worried about it.
“I haven’t the slightest idea man,” Young said. “I go out and play the game. That’s pretty much it. That’s all I can do.”
Young went from being the NFL’s top-rated passer after the opening week to watching from the end of the bench as backup Kerry Collins(notes) rallied the Titans in the final minutes of the game against Pittsburgh. Young turned the ball over three times.
Fisher said Young had a great practice and is going to play well Sunday. The coach plans to talk to his quarterback sometime this week and that Young easily can prevent being benched again.
“Just execute the game plan and play well. Like he’s been doing for the Bears jersey
last couple years,” Fisher said. “This was a one-time thing, and I discussed it. There is no sense in rehashing it.”
RENTON, Wash. (AP)—Seattle linebacker Leroy Hill(notes) will miss several games with an injury to the Achilles’ area of his right leg.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll didn’t give specifics Wednesday about Hill’s injury. It was originally announced as a calf strain but Carroll said it was more in the Achilles’ area.
Hill has been wearing a protective boot since being hurt early in last Sunday’s game against Denver.
Hill was making his season debut last week after being suspended by the league for the season opener against San Francisco. Hill was suspended for one game following his arrest in Georgia on a marijuana possession charge.
ST. LOUIS (AP)—St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Clifton Ryan(notes), who missed last week’s game because of migraine headaches, was held out of practice.
Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Wednesday the team was awaiting results of medical tests from a second opinion. He was hopeful Ryan would return to practice Thursday.
Safety Craig Dahl(notes) also was held out after sustaining a concussion in a helmet-to-helmet hit with Raiders running back Darren McFadden(notes).
Dahl, who had a concussion last year, said he was still a little light-sensitive. San Francisco 49ers jersey
Spagnuolo said Dahl had passed all tests thus far and could return to practice on Friday.Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

Wide receiver Laurent Robinson(notes) (foot) was limited, and Brandon Gibson(notes) and rookie Mardie Gilyard got snaps with the first string.
Rookie tight end Fendi Onobun(notes), a sixth-round pick who played only one season of college football at Houston, also took snaps with the starters. Billy Bajema(notes) (knee) and Michael Hoomanawanui(notes) (ankle) are both out, and Onobun expects to make his debut on Sunday against the Redskins.

Casillas' girlfriend lays into 'selfish' Ronaldo

Dallas Cowboys jersey
MADRID (AFP) - The girlfriend of Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas, Sara Carbonero, has hit out at star striker Cristiano Ronaldo for being "selfish".
"Ronaldo has always been like that, selfish and an individualist on football jerseys
the pitch and Real Madrid signed him like that," Carbonero, a sports journalist, told popular daytime chat show "Ana Rosa" on Telecinco, the private television station she works for.
"The only problem is that he was bought for 96 million euros so when he does things wrong, he can't be forgiven."
The 25-year-old Portuguese international, the world's most expensive player, had a successful start to his first season with Real in 2009 before it was curbed by an ankle injury from mid-October to late November.
Ronaldo still finished the club's second most prolific goalscorer in the league last season, his impressive tally of 26 goals only one behind teammate Gonzalo Higuain's 27.
This season Ronaldo has been slower to get off the mark, prompting reports that all might not be well with the world's most expensive player.
Several wayward shots and complaints to referees have been jeered by home and away fans, prompting the player to appeal for more fan support and "less whistles" at a Real news conference last week.
It took a deflection from a freekick for the Portuguese pin-up to Saints jersey
finally register his first goal of the campaign against Real Sociedad last weekend, Real's third game of the season.
Some reports have suggested Ronaldo has personal problems, but Carbonero denied this: "Nothing is happening to him, he is not depressed, he has not consulted a psychologist as has been said in recent days."
Carabonero, 25, shot to international fame during the World Cup when her reports on the Spain squad for Telecinco on live television from behind the net sparked accusations that she was distracting Casillas.
The controversy abated with Spain's first ever World Cup. Casillas, 29, kissed Carbonero on the mouth when she interviewed him for Telecinco just minutes after the victory in a broadcast watched by millions in Spain.
The FA have today confirmed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has accepted a charge of "using insulting and/or abusive language and behaviour amounting to improper conduct", and will now serve a one-match touchline ban.
The Frenchman will also be fined £8,000, the standard sanction in such cases along with the ban, and will sit through his suspension from the dugout during Tuesday's League Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur.
The charge relates to an incident which occurred during the Gunners' 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, when Wenger confronted match officials in the wake of the hosts' late equaliser, appearing to pat the fourth official on the back sarcastically.
After the game, Wenger expressed his anger that the match officials had appeared to add on more time than was necessary as stoppage time at the end of the game.
With Sunderland's equaliser almost the last kick of the contest, Wenger was clearly frustrated that his side had been denied the chance to top the Premier League table.
"I know the referee can give more than four, it's a minimum of San Diego Chargers jersey
four minutes, but in the four minutes nothing happened to justify the extension of the time," he told reporters after the match.
"But I cannot do anything about that.
"If you have a watch, you can control. It's as simple as that."
As for whether he had actually made contact with his hands on fourth official Martin Atkinson, he replied: "Take the pictures and look at it. I complain to nobody, especially not to you."

Japan braces for unfriendly China supporters

Dallas Cowboys jersey
TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's football chief has vowed to do everything possible to prevent Tokyo's diplomatic spat with Beijing over an incident in disputed waters from spoiling upcoming tournaments in China.
"It will be terribly shocking if booing starts when our national nfl jerseys
anthem is played," Japan Football Association president Junji Ogura told Japanese media.
"We want to take every possible step with the help of the Chinese (football) association," added Ogura, who also heads the East Asian Football Federation, in comments published Tuesday.
"I am worried. The football world in particular needs special care."
China will host the under-19 Asian football championships in October and the multi-sport Asian Games in November.
Japan's September 7 arrest of a Chinese captain suspected of ramming his trawler into two Japanese coastguard ships near disputed islands in the East China Sea has flared into a fierce diplomatic row.
China has put off various exchanges with Japan, from high-level diplomatic contacts to a concert tour by Japanese pop band SMAP after a Japanese court on Sunday extended the captain's detention for continued investigations.
The Japanese national football team have bitter memories of Bills jersey
facing hostile and abusive Chinese supporters at tournaments in China.
At the 2004 Asian Cup in China, local spectators booed the Japanese team even when their national anthem was played, reflecting deep-rooted antipathy dating back to Japan's World War II aggression.
The 2004 event ended with a near riot after the final in Beijing, where Japan beat China 3-1, when a Japanese diplomat's car was attacked.
At the 2008 East Asian championships in Chongqing, local spectators booed the Japanese national anthem, continuously jeered Japanese players and burned some Japanese national flags.
BREMEN, Germany (AP)—Werder Bremen and Poland defender Sebastian Boenisch will be out of action for up to six months with a knee injury.
The Bundesliga club said Tuesday that a scan showed an injury to the joint in the 23-year-old’s right knee.
Team doctor Goetz Dimanski says it will take between four to six months to get Boenisch back to fitness
MILAN (AP)—Still feeling the effects of a chest problem, 37-year-old Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti has been left off the squad for Wednesday’s game against Bari.
He will also likely sit out Saturday’s match against AS Roma.
Zanetti was taken to the hospital after getting hit by the ball during Sunday’s 49ers jersey
2-1 win over Palermo. He played a full 90 minutes but felt pain upon reaching the changing room.
It’s unclear if he will return for next week’s Champions League game against Werder Bremen.
Zanetti recently extended his contract with Inter through to the 2012-13 season.

* Club fears the player could be out for some time (adds quotes)
BERLIN, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich’s cheap nfl jerseys
France playmaker Franck Ribery limped off with an ankle injury midway through their 2-1 Bundesliga win at Hoffenheim on Tuesday and the club fear the Frenchman could be out for some time.
Ribery helped end Bayern’s league goal drought stretching back to Aug. 20 when he weaved into the area and saw his curled drive palmed away by goalkeeper Daniel Haas, only for Thomas Mueller to tuck away the rebound just past the hour.
The club said the French international had twisted his ankle following his shot on goal but it was unclear if, or for how long, the midfielder would be out of action.
“I think his injury may be quite serious,” Bayern coach Louis van Chargers jersey
Gaal told reporters.
Club director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said first medical checks showed the injury could be worse than just a sprained ankle.
“The first diagnosis does not look good. He could be out for a longer time,” Rummenigge said, speculating that it could be ligament-related.
Bayern, who won their Champions League group opener at home to Bears jersey
AS Roma last week, visit Basel in their next Group E game next Tuesday.
The German champions are also missing Dutch winger Arjen Robben, who aggravated a muscle injury at the World Cup, and could be out until late this year.

Browns coach Eric Mangini: 'We'll fix it'

Dallas Cowboys jersey

The Cleveland Browns are stuck in a rut filled with penalties, missed chances and losses.
Coach Eric Mangini bemoaned the team's litany of errors in football jerseys
Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, a defeat that mirrored Cleveland's Week 1 defeat at Tampa Bay. Mangini said he again spoke with his players about the self-inflicted wounds.
Cleveland committed nine penalties while dropping to 0-2.
The Browns also failed to score in the second half for the second straight week. With quarterback Seneca Wallace filling in for injured starter Jake Delhomme, out with an ankle injury, they gained just 55 yards after halftime against the Chiefs.
Mangini said in hindsight the Browns should have used their wildcat package with wide Cowboys jersey
receiver Joshua Cribbs at quarterback.
Sunday's national game on CBS, mainly Patriots-Jets, earned its highest preliminary rating for its first broadcast of the season since the network resumed televising the NFL in 1998.
New York's 28-14 win helped draw a 16.7 overnight rating and 32 share. CBS said Monday that the rating was up 8 percent from last year.
Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time. Overnight rating measure the country's largest markets.

Jacobs To Ask For Trade

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Things may already be turning ugly in the Giants’ locker room, with the unhappy Brandon Jacobs in the middle of it.
Jacobs, who Tom Coughlin chewed out after he bounced nfl jerseys
a second-half run to the outside for a major loss instead of taking it straight through the hole, and then flung his helmet into the stands, will meet with management today and ask for a trade.
The story was broken on beat reporter Vinny DiTrani’s blog at The Bergen Record.
Jacobs, representing a $13 million investment since he signed a new contract last year, has been unhappy since he lost his starting job to Ahmad Bradshaw in training camp. And last night’s failed run didn’t make things any better. In fact, Coughlin publicly scolded Jacobs in a postgame interview.
“Enough of that east-west stuff, you have to head north at sometime,” Coughlin said after the game.
The question is, will the Giants want to get rid of Jacobs. And if so, who will take him? Vikings jersey
And who will replace him? When his health and attitude is right, Jacobs can be a punishing presence between the tackles, just the type of person the Giants want to complement the slashing of Bradshaw. But there is no sense in having him if he chooses to bounce outside on his own. He proved last year that even when the plan called for him to hit the outside, he was less effective. Ad-libbing that can only exacerbate the problem.
Trading him might be possible, considering this is an uncapped season. But teams will be well aware of his fragility, and may want to stay away. It would also leave the Giants with DJ Ware as Bradshaw’s backup, and he tends to be inconsistent.
Keeping him, however, could be the worst of the two evils. Jacobs is clearly unhappy Colts jersey
despite Coughlin’s contention that it’s a long season where even one injury to Bradshaw could elevate Jacobs to his old job. After taking a 38-14 shellacking against the Colts, the Giants can ill-afford any malcontents now.

Cowboys doomed by mistakes

Dallas Cowboys jersey
I know I have said this before about the Cowboys, but the turnovers and the penalties they had in their loss to the Bears are the same problems they have been having for the past three or four years.
They got away from this negative stuff some last season. Still, penalties and inopportune turnovers have killed them in the crucial games. And they are so talented against some teams, the poorer NFL teams, they can have those turnovers and penalties and still win. But they can’t do it every week. Until they cut back on cheap nfl jerseys
these penalties and turnovers, they are going to have a problem.
To me, it is never too late to address these issues. Yes, they should have corrected this three or four years ago or last year or even in this past training camp. For example, how many times do you see them have a false start? Dallas may not be one of the leading teams in the NFL for total penalties, but I bet the Cowboys lead in false starts.
And turnover-wise, it just seems their turnovers come at the worst times in a game. Now, some may say we are overrating their talent, but I don’t think so. When you go through their depth chart, player by player, it is a talented group. But it is also an undisciplined group.
I know just from the history of the NFL that certain coaches have the ability to coach their teams to where they don’t have a lot of penalties. And other coaches can coach their teams to where they are always finishing the season with a big positive in the turnover ratio.
There are certain coaches who can coach teams into correcting mistakes. This stuff has to be corrected.
Tony Romo has been throwing a lot in these two losses, but you have to realize maybe his offense was going against some good run defenses. You would like the Cowboys to be able to run it more, but I think that answer is too simplistic. I believe the added emphasis in practice this week should be directed at correcting these penalties and turnovers.
Now, I still believe they are talented enough they still are going to win a lot of games. But if the Cowboys still have these problems, they are going to lose some of the crucial games they will need to make the playoffs.
It’s almost as if the Cowboys think they are so talented it is not a big deal, all these mistakes. They better start realizing all the teams in this league have some talent.
I don’t know how many times I have told people this: It’s not how many great plays you make in this league to be successful; it is how few bad plays you make. The successful coaches in this league are the ones whose teams make very few mistakes. But the Cowboys seem to be more focused on how many great plays they make rather than how many bad plays they make.
I mean, they definitely have to turn their attitude around.
Minnesota is still good on defense, but it lost to Miami because the offense turned it over four times. Brett Favre has taken a step back. He is not as sharp as he was last season.
One reason he looks this way is he doesn’t have Sidney Rice out there, and Percy Harvin is just now getting into a groove with him. So, the Vikings are not quite the same team on offense they were last season.
Plus, some may not like hearing this, but Brett wasn’t in training camp, so he may not be in sync with everyone yet. Plus, he’s not a young guy. I have always thought with veterans that, the older a player is, the more time he has to spend studying and preparing himself. As players get older, they need to work harder, not less.
And Brett has worked less.
I made a comment at our FOX seminar last month: I said the Vikings were setting themselves up for Buffalo Bills jersey
failure. When you make so many concessions to one player, it is hard to discipline the entire team, because you can’t have double standards.
And people immediately cornered me and said, “Now wait a minute now, you always said that you treated your players differently.” And I did treat everyone differently, but I expected every one of them to work hard. I expected everyone to be on time and to be at practice. It was just that the ones who did all those good things, I cut them some slack when they had a slip-up. But that didn’t mean I let them out of work.
The NFC North is now a real interesting division. Chicago appears to be playing the defense it used to play. And Jay Cutler and offensive coordinator Mike Martz — now, I have been critical of Martz, but, hey, everybody gets better. And it looks like Martz has gotten better. He’s done an outstanding job of working with Cutler. So, the Bears have their defense back, and Cutler is playing well.
Chicago is strong, but Minnesota I believe will still be in the mix. And Green Bay? The way the Packers score points, they will be a factor all the way until the end.
I do believe the Vikings, after today’s loss, will be trying extra hard to trade for Vincent Jackson, because it is obvious that Favre needs some help.
A vote for Vick
I know we said today that Andy Reid plans to start Kevin Kolb next week, but I will continue to say I would like to see Michael Vick remain at quarterback simply because I am a fan. I love seeing all those exciting plays he makes. As a coach, I think you have to overlook some of his passing inconsistencies but look at his winning percentage. He does things that help you win games.
The other thing for the Eagles to consider is their offensive line problems. Vick helps you make some good plays out of bad plays. You are going to need some mobility back there to avoid the pass rush, and he showed that Sunday in Detroit. He also threw the ball well. To me, he looked better today than what I remember of him when he was playing in Atlanta back in 2006. Because in Atlanta, he was extremely inconsistent throwing the football. But he’s throwing the ball pretty well. He had beautiful 53-yarder to DeSean Jackson down the middle.
I’m sure he’s going to have some days when the Eagles may say, “Gee, his passing game is terrible.” But he gives you a lot just with his running ability.
I think the decision to start Vick is a lot easier now with Donovan McNabb not in Philadelphia. It’s not like the franchise is hanging on Kevin Kolb. I also believe the Eagles are going to need Kolb at a certain point because I’m not sure Vick is going to be the guy for the rest of the year. He’s going to get banged up or Steelers jersey
something. I would stick with Vick next week against Jacksonville, but we keep hearing that Andy wants to put Kolb back in there.
But I know how these things go. If Andy does decide to put Kolb back in there, there is going to be an outcry in Philadelphia among the fans wanting Vick. I’ve been around long enough to know fans typically scream love and support for the backup quarterback. Now, those fans are really going to scream for Vick. They love a guy like him.

Serie A Preview: Roma - Bologna

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Turbulent Week
Roma's start to the season was disappointing enough but after their 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League it has become controversial. The Giallorossi's performance was dire at the Allianz Arena as they played defensive football that didn't go down well with club captain and cheap nfl jerseys
talisman Francesco Totti.
"We did not play football, we just thought about defending," said Totti. "We always had 10 men behind the ball, and I think that we cannot win games this way. We played the old catenaccio. We defended for the entire game, not even having a shot on goal.
"Now we are here speaking about another loss. Until now things have not Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
gone well. I hope this changes soon, starting from Bologna on Sunday."
Coach Claudio Ranieri knows that he will have to win this game for the Rome-based club as there are suggestions that Marcello Lippi could replace him if results don't improve.
Struggling As Usual
Bologna are supposedly one of the sides who will fight for survival in Serie A this season and so far they have been doing just that. With just a one point from two games, the Felsinei are currently third from bottom.
However, Alberto Malesani's side should be encouraged by the fact that they held Italian and European giants Inter to a 0-0 draw in their first game of the league campaign.

Serie A Preview: Palermo - Inter

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Erosion Continues
Palermo came close to finishing in the top four in Serie A last season but so far this term the Sicilians have been terrible. Just a single point from their opening two games in the Italian top flight means that Delio Rossi's side are 16th in the table.
Furthermore, the Aquile went down 3-2 in Prague to football jersey
Sparta in their opening game of the Europa League on Thursday and this result didn't go down well with club supremo Maurizio Zamparini, who said, "Rossi must say that he got it wrong, otherwise he will be at risk as well. We have a coach in football and I am very disappointed.
"We cannot score four goals just to win a game. A team that scores six in three games usually wins all of them, but not us. Anyway, we have to move on, we will resolve this amalgamation problem."
Winning against mighty Inter even at home doesn't appear very feasible but by the looks of things, Rossi may just have to conjure up a victory or face the music.
Struggling For Identity
A new coach does take time to stamp his authority and identity on Colts jersey
a team and Rafael Benitez appears to be struggling to do that at Italian and European champions Inter. A 2-2 draw with Dutch champions FC Twente in the Netherlands in their opening game of the Champions League isn't exactly a bad result but given that Inter conceded twice does make the outcome disappointing.
However, Benitez believes that his team are improving and after the draw with Twente said, "It's true the first half was very difficult, but in the second we were under control and I am satisfied with the result against a difficult side.
"I saw some elements of the right spirit during the game and slowly we improved in our intensity. I think the team is improving. We're still at the start, but we're already seeing some improvements."
The draw also meant that the Beneamata remain unbeaten this season in competitive football, having garnered four points from their opening two fixtures in Serie A. A 0-0 draw with Bologna away from home was followed by a less than impressive 2-1 defeat of Udinese at the San Siro.
Nevertheless, Javier Zanetti warns that the European Cowboys jersey
champions may have to struggle against Palermo and said, "Sunday's match will be very difficult. The crowd at the [Renzo] Barbera [stadium] will be against us.
"Palermo are a very good side. I saw the match they played against Brescia, and we need to be attentive."

Serie A Preview: Milan - Catania

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Mixed Start
Milan's 2010-11 campaign started on a high as they thumped Lecce 4-0 in their first game of the new Serie A season but last weekend the Rossoneri slumped to a 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Cesena.
However, Massimiliano Allegri's side bounced back in nfl jerseys
style in midweek, defeating Auxerre 2-0 at home in their opening match in the Champions League. Summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored both the goals against the French side and indeed is looking forward to scoring again on Saturday evening.
"There was a lot of pressure at Cesena as everyone had high expectations,'' said Ibrahimovic. "I had only just arrived.
"I'm delighted to have scored against Auxerre in front of the home fans and I am confident this is only the beginning. I believe I can do very well with this team.''
High On Confidence
Catania had to struggle for survival for much of last season and indeed some observers believe that the Sicilians could do the same this time around too. However, after a 2-1 defeat to Chievo in Verona in their first league fixture of the season, the Rossazzurri won 2-1 against Parma at home.
Defeating Milan at the San Siro is not going to be easy for Catania and Steelers jersey
coach Marco Giampaolo wasn't very impressed with their performance against Parma either.
He explained, "The three points taken against Parma give the team a boost in confidence. But I am by no means happy. We didn't play well against Parma and we still have to make that leap in quality.''
Whether Catania can inflate their quality to match that of Milan remains to be seen.
TEAM NEWS
Milan
Flamini, Ambrosini and Pato are injured and unavailable. This means that Robinho is likely to replace Pato on the right from the start.
Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Abbiati, Bonera, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Antonini; Boateng, Pirlo, Seedorf; Robinho, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldinho
Catania
Sciacca is unavailable for the Sicilians.
Probable Lineup (4-3-1-2): Andujar, Potenza, Silvestre, Spolli, Vikings jersey
Capuano; Biagianti, Carboni, Ledesma; Ricchiuti; Lopez, Mascara

Jets’ Revis, Patriots’ Moss ready for next meeting

Cowboys jersey
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP)—Revis Island is ready for a visit from the “Slouch.”
As if Jets-Patriots needed any extra juice, New York cornerback Darrelle Revis(notes) and New England receiver Randy Moss(notes) are ready to take their rivalry to the field again.
“It ought to be a great one,” Jets coach nfl jersey
Rex Ryan said Wednesday.
That’s because the two stars have taken playful shots at each other during the last several months.
To review: Revis was playing a word-association game on the NFL Network in January when he was asked about Terrell Owens(notes).
“Slouch,” Revis responded.
Deion Sanders, conducting the interview, then said: “Randy Moss.”
Revis responded: “Probably say slouch, too.”
Well, Moss playfully fired back during an interview with ESPN on Tuesday, saying, “We’re coming to the Meadowlands on Sunday, man, so you got 60 minutes of this ‘slouch.’ I don’t really get into the trash talking, but if what he called me was a ‘slouch,’ then I guess the ‘slouch’ will be there to see you on Sunday.”
Revis was amused when told of Moss’ comments.
“He probably said it with a laugh, but it’s been in his mind for the whole offseason and he’s been working hard for this day to come,” Revis said. “I’m expecting him to play his A-plus game. I don’t expect anything less when I do play against Randy.”
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady(notes) pays no attention to any of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
the trash talk.
“We’re all called a lot of names by a lot of people,” Brady said. “It’s hard for me to think that you get so worked up over that. Revis is a good player, but we play a lot of good players, too. The Jets have a lot of good players. We don’t prepare for one player. We prepare for the whole defense.”
The back-and-forth between Revis and Moss started last season when the New England star was held to four catches for 24 yards in the Jets’ 16-9 win. Moss refused to give Revis total credit, saying he had help in the coverage, and that ticked off the cornerback.
“When I played him the first game last year, I called him a slouch for a reason,” Revis said. “Because that game, I felt like he played like a slouch. That’s the simple point. But, I still have respect for him and I know he’s one of the best there is.”
When reminded that he called Moss a “slouch” a few months later, Revis shrugged.
“If I said it in January or whenever I said it, you guys know I said it,” he said. “Like I said, that’s how I felt at that particular time.”
In their second meeting, Moss had five catches for 34 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown receptions, as New England cruised to a 31-14 win.
“They tried to come after me in the second game and he was more prepared for me in the second game, too,” Revis said. “But they tried to get me on some trick plays.”
But, was Moss a slouch in that one, too?
“No,” Revis said, smiling, “he wasn’t a slouch in the second game.”
Revis said neither player talks much trash on the field, but he fully expects Moss to have revenge on his mind when the teams play Sunday.
“I look forward to the matchup,” Moss said. “I have a lot of respect for Darrelle Revis. He’s a young player who definitely matured faster than most young players do. I’ll get the best from him. He’ll get the best from me. The only thing I can say is, collectively as a team, hopefully we get the best of the Jets.”
Ryan is just glad he’ll have Revis, who held out of training camp in a contract dispute, on the field against Moss.
“There’s only one corner in the league that would dare to go against Randy Moss one-on-one, and that’s Darrelle,” Ryan said. “That’s the only one that should try to compete.”
Notes: Jets LB Calvin Pace(notes) will miss the game because of a broken right foot, but hopes to get out of his walking boot Thursday. He’s still unsure when he’ll return. … S Brodney Pool(notes) was limited with a sprained ankle. … Ryan said the Jets chose to Minnesota Vikings jersey
bring back WR David Clowney(notes) instead of Laveranues Coles(notes) to add a speedy vertical threat to the passing game. … Ryan confirmed the team brought LB-DE Adalius Thomas(notes) in for a physical, but the team has no immediate plans to sign him.

Raiders run defense faces another big test

Cowboys jersey
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP)—Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley(notes) insists problems the Oakland Raiders had stopping the run last week against the Tennessee Titans are correctable.
They better be.
With Stephen Jackson and St. Louis coming to town for Oakland’s home opener, the Raiders won’t get much of nfl throwback jerseys
a break as they try to avoid an 0-2 start for the fourth time in six seasons.
“We just had a couple breakdowns here and there,” Wimbley said Wednesday. “I don’t think it was anything with the scheme or the play-calling. We just had a couple mental breakdowns that gave them some big plays that allowed them to get that high on us.”
The most significant breakdown came late in the second quarter when Tennessee scored two touchdowns in a span of 1 minute, 53 seconds. Titans running back Chris Johnson provided the big blow with a 76-yard touchdown run after being shut down for most of the first half.
That helped turn what had been a promising start to the season for Oakland’s run defense into a nightmarish afternoon that ended with Tennessee handing the Raiders a 35-13 loss. It was the eighth straight season-opening loss for Al Davis’ team.
“We played well on Johnson for most of the game and he had that one big run that helped his average out,” Wimbley said. “Facing Jackson, he’s not necessarily as fast as Johnson is but he still has a lot of stuff that you have to be aware of and be careful about.”
Wimbley was part of Oakland’s offseason defensive makeover. The veteran linebacker was acquired from Cleveland in March in exchange for a third-round draft pick and broke into the Raiders’ lineup early in training camp.
Oakland also signed free agent defensive tackle John Henderson(notes) and used their first two picks in the draft on middle linebacker Rolando McClain(notes) and defensive end Lamarr Houston(notes).
It all looked good on paper until Johnson’s big run, which brought to mind memories of 2009 when the Raiders ranked 29th against the run and 26th on defense overall. Safety Tyvon Branch(notes) whiffed on a tackle attempt near the line of Dallas Cowboys jersey
scrimmage while linebackers Rolando McClain and Thomas Howard(notes) were sealed off perfectly, opening a huge lane for Johnson to burst through.
Oakland’s players and coaching staff said the mistakes were self-inflicted.
“We needed to finish a little better,” Wimbley said. “Once the score kind of got out of whack, I think we stepped it up a little bit, trying to bring it back close before the game was over, but by then it was already too late.”
Before Johnson’s long touchdown, which boosted his per-carry average from 2.54 to 5.3, Oakland’s defense had shut down the NFL’s leading rusher from 2009.
Raiders coach Tom Cable, though, isn’t interested in moral victories.
“See, this is the mode we have got to get out of around here,” Cable said. “That’s not good enough. We have got to stay to this level, to this vision that we have. A standard of play if you will, and don’t compromise it.”
Oakland’s offense got a boost when running back Michael Bush(notes) returned to practicing at full capacity. Bush sat out the season-opener after breaking the thumb on his left hand but worked out without limitations Wednesday. His playing status will be determined later in the week.
NOTES:T Erik Pears(notes), who was with the team in training camp, has been re-signed. To make room on the roster, wide receiver/kick returner Yamon Figurs(notes) was released. Figurs started on special teams against the Titans and fumbled the opening kickoff, but Cable insisted that wasn’t why the move was made. … LG Robert Gallery(notes) did not practice because of a hamstring strain. His status is questionable. … CB Nnamdi Asomugha(notes) (groin), WR Minnesota Vikings jersey
Chaz Schilens(notes) (knee), defensive tackle Richard Seymour(notes) (hamstring), safety Hiram Eugene(notes) (hamstring), cornerbacks Chris Johnson (stinger) and Walter McFadden(notes) (hamstring) and linebacker Travis Goethel(notes) (back) were also held out of practice.

Baines targets England recall

Indianapolis Colts jersey

Leighton Baines has not given up on his England dream and is aiming to regain his place in the Three Lions squad by reproducing the sort of form for Everton that convinced Fabio Capello to hand him an international debut last season.
• Upson place in doubt after Capello row
• McClaren urges FA to hire Englishman
After featuring in the friendlies against Egypt and Mexico, Baines was a surprise omission from Fabio Capello's World Cup squad, losing out to Stephen Warnock.
Now Arsenal youngster Kieran Gibbs has leapfrogged above both men in the battle to be understudy to Ashley Cole.
It is hard to see that situation changing ahead of nfl jerseys
next month's Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro, even though Baines was one of the major influences behind Everton's remarkable comeback against Manchester United on Saturday.
But the 25-year-old is not allowing himself to get disheartened - and does not believe his international days are over.
"You never know where you are with England,'' Baines told the Liverpool Echo. "Before I got my first call-up I didn't know if I was close or a million miles away.
"The past has proved if Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
your form is good every week then you will get looked at. Okay, it didn't work out quite as well as it could have done but I am only 25 and there is still time.''
The former Wigan star has been keeping up with events on the England front though. He was quick enough to get in touch with Toffees team-mate Phil Jagielka to offer his congratulations for the performances against Bulgaria and Switzerland that have placed major question marks over the defensive futures of established first-choices Rio Ferdinand and John Terry.
"Jags has been brilliant for England,'' Baines said. "I watched him against the Swiss and he looked so comfortable and assured at the back.
"I texted him after the game and said 'you looked like you had played 40 internationals'. He certainly didn't look like it was his sixth cap.
"The way he performed for England is Minnesota Vikings jersey
the way he plays for us every week. He is a rock and a terrific defender.''

Sam Bradford and an NFC West in transition

Indianapolis Colts jersey

ST. LOUIS -- The two-time defending NFC West champion Arizona Cardinals scrapped their way to a 17-13 victory over a St. Louis Rams team with a rookie quarterback and six victories in its previous 48 games.

The popular favorite to win the division this season, San Francisco, already faces tough questions after suffering a 31-6 humiliation in Seattle against the rebuilding, and cheap nfl jerseys
surprisingly rejuvenated, Seahawks.
It's nearly impossible to know how this division race will shake out after one dizzying week, but it's looking like it'll be a race, not a runaway. Oh, and one other thing: Sam Bradford looks like the quarterback to make the Rams competitive.
"I wish another team had drafted him," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said.
Don't let the brutal stat line fool you. Bradford threw three picks and finished with a 53.1 passer rating. The Cardinals picked him off on a Hail Mary to end the game and on a late fourth-down play when Bradford had to take a chance or turn over the ball on downs.
The Rams converted 10 of 23 times on third or fourth down. They couldn't finish except when Bradford rolled out and found Laurent Robinson for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the Arizona 1-yard line -- a gutsy call revealing just how much faith the Rams have in their new leader. Bradford even beat defensive lineman Darnell Dockett and linebacker Clark Haggans to a loose ball after tight end Billy Bajema fumbled.
"That is our new leader, him and Steven [Jackson] and O.J. [Atogwe]," Rams defensive tackle Clifton Ryan said. "I view him as a leader even though he is a rookie because of the confidence that he prepares with, the confidence he came in with, the confidence that he played with today. As he progresses, you're going to see him lead us to victory in games like this."
It could happen next week in Oakland. It nearly happened Sunday, but the Cardinals did just enough.
Quarterback Derek Anderson overcame inaccuracy and manpower issues at receiver to find Steve Breaston seven times for 132 yards. He showed the leadership Whisenhunt wanted -- and the guile Matt Leinart failed to muster -- b shaking off repeated hits. Anderson took nine hits but only one sack, and afterward Rams defensive end Chris Long said Anderson surprised him with his feel for when to get rid of the ball.
There were stretches during the game when I wondered if we might see another quarterback change in Arizona within a couple weeks. That was probably a hasty judgment. Afterward, Whisenhunt said he was very comfortable with where the offense is heading under Anderson.
Anderson at times exploited a Rams secondary that went much of Dallas Cowboys jersey
the second half without its third and fourth cornerbacks. (Kevin Dockery and Justin King left with injuries, while rookie cornerback Jerome Murphy was already inactive.)
The Cardinals had their own personnel issues. They lost receiver Early Doucet, leaving undrafted rookies Max Komar and Stephen Williams to play critical downs. Anderson missed open receivers -- especially Larry Fitzgerald, whose tender knee became a problem as the game progressed -- but Whisenhunt said he was comfortable the passing game would progress in time. Anderson did find Fitzgerald for the go-ahead 21-yard touchdown with 6:19 remaining, an accurate throw on second-and-20.
"I think we still need to find out what our strengths are going to be with Derek as far as the types of passes we are going to be able to run," Whisenhunt said. "What I really liked was when he moved out of the pocket, made the throw to Larry Fitzgerald for the touchdown and put us in the lead. ... His leadership was good and he never lost his desire to be the quarterback and lead the team and he made some plays at the end that were big for us to win." The Cardinals couldn't score at all when Leinart was the quarterback at St. Louis for two quarters last season. Anderson was better than that.
But Arizona probably wouldn't have won this game if Breaston, with his team trailing 13-10 in the third quarter, hadn't hustled downfield and stripped the ball from Ryan just as the defensive lineman was nearing the goal line with a fumble return. Center Lyle Sendlein also gets credit for scrambling downfield and landing on the ball in the end zone.
"That is why they are the only NFC team to win a playoff game in '08 and '09," Ryan said. "Until we find ways to win games like this, we're going to be behind them. But I think we are headed in the right direction."
Bradford makes it so.
The rookie showed poise against pressure, operating "like he always does, like a 10-year vet," guard Adam Goldberg said.
That was apparent when Bradford rolled away from an onrushing Dockett and still found Robinson for an 11-yard gain. It was apparent by the way Bradford led the huddle.
"He commanded the offense in the huddle when he needed to and even corrected some calls," Jackson said.
Bradford took only two sacks in 57 dropbacks despite a few jailbreak situations that easily could have overwhelmed a lesser player. Adrian Wilson, the Cardinals' Pro Bowl safety and enforcer, was unblocked and blasted Bradford on one play. Bradford got up and threw a strike to receiver Mark Clayton well downfield on the next play, a third-and-13 (Clayton dropped the ball).
Bradford and the newly aquired Clayton have been together about a week and the receiver already has a 100-yard receiving game. The Rams had zero 100-yard receivers last season and only one in 2008. They're 1-for-1 with Bradford after Clayton caught 10 passes for 119 yards. The 33-yard strike Bradford threw to Clayton against Pro Bowl cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie couldn't have been delivered any more accurately.
Yes, Bradford is looking like a guy who can play.
"Looking like? He is a guy that can play," Ryan corrected.
The Rams' defense even has a new mindset on the sideline when its offense faces third down.
"Instead of Minnesota Vikings jersey
punt alert, we are thinking first-down alert," Long said. "We have faith in 8 [Bradford] and faith in this offense."
Jackson remains the Rams' best player. The offense arguably should have gone through him more Sunday. But it's easy to see why the coaching staff wanted to showcase Bradford. He's their best hope. The Edward Jones Dome responded, too. The crowd was into it.
"We can't expect him to just turn things around in one day," Jackson said.

Rapid Reaction: Redskins 13, Cowboys 7

Indianapolis Colts jersey

LANDOVER, Md. -- It wasn't pretty, but the Mike Shanahan era is off to a good start. The Washington Redskins used a huge Cowboys miscue at the end of the first half to take a 10-0 lead and were able to hang on for a 13-7 win. While I'm headed down to the locker room, feel free to peruse the following items:
What it means: It's a huge win for an football jersey
organization that was 0-for-6 in the NFC East last season. The Redskins' defense made big plays when it counted and the Cowboys looked nothing like a team that belongs in the Super Bowl conversation. I'm feeling better and better about my Giants pick all the time.
Tomorrow's talker: I'm planning to write about that DeAngelo Hall touchdown at the end of the first half. Cowboys coach Wade Phillips told NBC at halftime that the offense should've taken a knee. We'll see if he backs off that statement at all in the postgame news conference. I'm not saying the Cowboys were definitely going to win the Indianapolis Colts jersey
game without that play, but it gave the Redskins a huge lift.
Goat: I guess you could pin this thing on Cowboys running back Tashard Choice's fumble, but I'd rather focus on offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. His alleged high-powered attack couldn't win a game in which the Skins' offense only mustered two field goals. Garrett will have to answer a lot of questions this week.
What I didn't like: The Cowboys' kickoff coverage was pretty bad and they didn't do much in the return game. And despite moving the ball, I thought Garrett got away from the running game when it seemed to be gaining a little traction. Oh, and that holding call on Alex Barron on the final play wasn't a great thing for the Cowboys. Barron couldn't handle Brian Orakpo at all in the second half and it Minnesota Vikings jersey
ended up costing the Cowboys a touchdown.
What's next: The Redskins can't get too excited about this win because they have the mighty Houston Texans coming to town next Sunday. The Cowboys have to try to turn this thing around against the Bears.

Pep keeping faith after defeat

Steelers jersey

Pep Guardiola insists he retains full faith in his Barcelona players following their shock 2-0 defeat to Hercules.
Barca were well beaten at Camp Nou on nfl throwback jerseys
Saturday against their little-fancied opponents, but Guardiola said there is no question over the players' hunger and commitment to the cause.
"It is impossible to doubt these players," he said. "We could have the worst season possible, but I would still have my faith in them. The other day, I didn't make their job easy for them.
"After winning six titles in a row, they were able to get 99 points in such a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
demanding competition as La Liga. Having seen that, it's impossible to have any doubts - they get all the credit. I know them, and it hurts them to lose. They are too honourable, they want to perform, and want to compete and do as well as they know they can.
"Lack of desire was not an issue. They want to carry on winning, that's their desire, and I want people to know that defeat affected them. The other reason is that the opposition played better.
"Teams are incredibly fragile. Just one piece has to be missing and things get Dallas Cowboys jersey
fragile. We were lacking the right movement to attack well. We have to find our game again and be ourselves again."

Bucs won’t keep DE White after this season

Cowboys jersey

Here a couple of whispers we've heard recently from around the NFC South:
• It would be shocking if the Buccaneers re-signed DE nfl jersey
Stylez White after this season, according to a team observer. Head coach Raheem Morris has been critical of White's effort in practice and said the Bucs will tolerate White until they can replace him. Tampa Bay is expected to spend at least one early pick on a defensive end in next year's draft.
• When PFW asked Falcons DE Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
Kroy Biermann(notes) if he had seen signs of improvement from DT Peria Jerry(notes) this year, he said he didn't know. "He's a tackle, I'm an end," Biermann said. "I've been real focused on what I'm doing. He's obviously out there. He's obviously running around. He's eager to learn and he (wants) to get better. We'll have to see when things get rolling here." Jerry will start at nose tackle for Atlanta after missing all but two games Indianapolis Colts jersey
last season with a leg injury.

Ray Rice expects defenses to come after him

Cowboys jersey

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Ray Rice(notes) is a moving target, darting away from linebackers with his elusive, low-slung frame.
In the span of one year, Rice has become the hunted one.
The Baltimore Ravens’ muscular Pro Bowl running back is aware that he’s no longer a secret in NFL circles.
As the Ravens prepare for Monday night’s season nfl jerseys
opener against the New York Jets, Rice has emerged as a focal point for opposing defenses to strategize against.
“I know that, and I respect that so much,” Rice said. “That started happening at the end of last season where people were game-planning to try to shut me down. I took it as a challenge last season, and I take it as an even bigger challenge this year. I know that I’m a guy that defenses pay attention to, and that’s all about respect. I’m not hiding from anybody.”
Plotting to stop Rice is a focus for any smart defense, even the reigning top-ranked defense in the league from last season.
Rice rushed for 1,339 yards last season, manufacturing an additional 780 yards on 78 receptions. With 2,041 all-purpose yards, Rice ranked second in the NFL in yards from scrimmage behind Tennessee Titans star Chris Johnson.
Now, the 5-foot-8, 212-pounder is even stronger having spent the majority of the offseason in the weight room.
Through diligence with heavy metal, Rice now bench presses 405 pounds and squats over 500 pounds. He has bulked up significantly while maintaining his trademark shiftiness and breakaway speed.
“Everything starts with Ray Rice,” Jets linebacker Bart Scott said during a conference call with Baltimore reporters. “He’s a dual threat running the ball and also catching the ball. We’ve got to try to bottle him up and make him one-dimensional and try to set our offense up with a short field so they don’t have to try to march down the field on that defense.”
Rice has been widely labeled as a strong AFC Offensive Player of the Year candidate.
The diminutive runner’s biceps are softball-sized. His legs are pumped with muscles like a car’s pistons.
“The weight room has been good to me,” Rice said. “I love to work hard. Hard work pays off, and it’s not just about looking a certain way. It’s about being able to stiff-arm somebody or finish off a block. It’s about making yourself a weapon out there.”
Johnson rushed for 2,066 yards last season and has set a goal of gaining 2,500 this year, which would shatter the NFL single-season rushing mark.
Does Rice envision a 2,000-yard campaign in his future like Johnson?
“Yeah, he put it out there,” Rice said. “I’m a Dallas Cowboys jersey
guy that I feel like I do more than run the ball, 2,000 rushing yards, I’ve done that in college. I’m not saying that can’t happen. What I’m saying is that I think my value is more than just running the ball.
“I always want to win first. I say anything over 2,000 all-purpose yards will put me where I want to be. I don’t want to be just a guy that flew under the radar. If I fall short and we’re winning games, then that’s great. I just want to be a guy who helps the team win.”
Toward that goal, the Ravens preserved Rice during the preseason for games that actually count.
Rice only had 13 touches during essentially two preseason games as he barely played in the first preseason game and was rested during the preseason finale.
He rushed eight times for 30 yards. He registered five receptions for 56 yards.
Now, Rice enters the Jets game with fresh legs.
"I feel great," he said. "It’s the best I’ve ever felt. Our training camp was physical. It felt good to get tackled during training camp by our guys.
“You don’t necessarily want to be tackled by another team, but I feel fresh going into this game. It feels great to know that you got your workload in camp, but now you’re ready to play the regular season."
This is a special game for the former Rutgers star.
The native of New Rochelle, N.Y., requested 35 to 40 tickets for friends and family for this game at the new Meadowlands stadium.
"It’s a new stadium, my family is up there and I’m trying to get my high school coaches to come," Rice said. "I’m trying to make it a special event."
The Jets are particularly stout against the run.
The front seven is headlined by massive nose guard Kris Jenkins and inside linebackers David Harris and Scott.
"We both play that physical game," Rice said. "It’s going to be who out-executes each other. I don’t think it’s going to be a first-quarter knockout. I want the game to go four quarters. That way, our true testament and will, will come out."
Unconcerned about Rice being rusty, the Indianapolis Colts jersey
Ravens believe that he’s primed for another outstanding season.
"Hopefully, he’ll come out ready to go," quarterback Joe Flacco said. "You know what Ray can do, so I expect him to come out and do all that, have some good carries, be effective first in the pass game."

Revis, Jets were both ready to pass on 2010

Cowboys jersey

Both publicly and behind the scenes on their HBO show, the Jets said they were comfortable playing out the entire 2010 season without CB Darrelle Revis(notes) if he had chosen to continue his holdout. We hear that Revis would have been comfortable doing the same.
According to the All-Pro's agent, Neil Schwartz, there was no way that Revis was going to step on the field this year for his original salary of nfl jersey
$1 million. Revis felt he should have been compensated as the league's best defensive back and was willing to miss the season to prove his point.
"The feeling in our camp was that we would sit out until a fair deal got done," Schwartz told PFW. "We were listening to everything they said (publicly), but we were always actively looking to get a deal signed."
Following his 36-day holdout, Revis and the Jets agreed to a $46 million contract ($32 million guaranteed) on Sept. 5. Jets SS Jim Leonhard(notes) was excited to see his teammate's deal get done but, like his coaches, felt the team would have been competitive without Revis.
"We feel like we had the talent Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
without him, and then you add him to it and nothing changes," Leonhard said. "Obviously, we have a lot of confidence in this group of guys. We're excited to have him back and we're ready to go."
Schwartz said that neither side changed its negotiating approach as the regular season drew closer, another sign that both parties were prepared to kick off the year without No. 24 wearing green and white.
"We had a difference of opinion with the Jets, but that's business," Schwartz said.
The "business" also had a personal twist. Schwartz's son Deuce served as a Jets ball boy this summer, alongside head coach Rex Ryan's son, Seth. When asked how he got the highly competitive position, Deuce was a bit discreet, telling the team's coaches and his fellow ball boys that it was because his dad was the agent for Jets OG Rob Turner (which is accurate). It wasn't until there were only days remaining in camp before Ryan found out that the son of Minnesota Vikings jersey
Revis' agent was working for his team.
"They gave Deuce some grief, but it was all in good fun. We both can separate business from real life," Schwartz said.

Steelers jersey

NEW YORK (AFP) - FIFA World Cup inspectors visited New York as part of a three-day, five-city US tour that includes breakfast at the White House.
The six-man delegation is touring potential stadiums football jersey
and facilities as part of the process in determining if America is a suitable host for the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
The highlight of the tour for the group, which is led by Chile Football Federation president Harold Mayne-Nicholls, will be breakfast at the White House Wednesday morning in Washington, DC.
Former US President Bill Clinton attended World Cup matches in South Africa and is chairman of the US bid. It is unclear whether President Barack Obama would attend the breakfast.
"We're not sure of all the guests, but there certainly will be a couple of cabinet members and a couple senior members of the president's staff," US Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati said.
The delegation will also make stops in Dallas Cowboys jersey
Miami, Dallas and Houston. The United States is one of eight of nine stops on the FIFA world tour. FIFA's executive committee votes on both event hosts December 2.
Europe is expected to be awarded the 2018 tournament, with England, Russia, Spain-Portugal and Belgium-Netherlands competing. For the 2022 tournament, the US is up against Australia, Japan, Qatar and South Korea.
Mayne-Nicholls group does not make the final decision but they are expected to submit an evaluation to the 24-man FIFA executive committee after they finish their global tour.
"We are here to get as much information as possible," said Mayne-Nicholls.
Washington and New York are among Indianapolis Colts jersey
18 cities in the US bid. The number would be cut to a dozen cities if the United States is successful.
The newly built Meadowlands Stadium and the mammoth Cowboys Stadium have been listed as possible sites for the opening.

Steelers jersey

MADRID, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Real Madrid’s income rose 8.6 percent from 407.3 million to 442.3 million euros in the 2009/10 season, the Spanish club said in a statement on Wednesday.
The nine-times European Cup winners were the nfl jersey
first team in any sport to post revenues in excess of 400 million euros in a single year, accountancy firm Deloitte said in their most recent survey of the world’s richest soccer clubs back in March.
Real reported their net profit had risen 11.5 percent to 24 million euros, and that their net debt had shrunk from 326.7 million to 244.6 million euros.

Their net debt was listed as having swelled to 442 million euros, and Gay’s survey listed their total debt as being 489 million at the end of the 2008/9 season.

BERLIN, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker will miss Saturday’s Bundesliga game with Bayern Munich and their Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur after being injured in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday.

“He will surely miss Saturday’s match as well as Indianapolis Colts jersey

“We will have to wait and see what will happen after that. This is not a good situation for us because apart from (defender) Naldo we are now missing a second central defender.”

Is Haynesworth Coming Back To Tennessee?

The rumor mill has once again focused on prodigal son Albert Haynesworth. The Washington Redskins are looking to unload the disgruntled defensive tackle, and Tennessee seems like the most likely destination.
Would this be a good trade for the Titans? Could nfl jerseys
he help their D-line? There's no doubt that Big Al is more powerful than a locomotive, but that train carries a lot of baggage. Let's look at the pros and cons.
Pros:
Jim Washburn - Nobody can get more out of the mercurial Haynesworth than the Titans' line coach. Wash made Al a star. Wash made Al rich. Wash can help Al get back on track.
It's Tennessee! - Break out the orange UT jerseys! Folks Indianapolis Colts jersey
around here love their college heroes. Hopefully he can have several, let's say eventful, reunions with fellow Vol alumni Peyton Manning.
Motivation - Haynesworth plays very well when he's highly motivated, and right now he's got something to prove. Bonus, we have a game against the Redskins.
Cons:
Contents Fragile - You know what you're going to get with Albert, and it's not 16 full games.
Band-aid - Yeah, he'd be back, but for how long? I wouldn't count on more than two years.
Roster impact - Bringing in Haynesworth Dallas Cowboys jersey
means dropping another lineman. Do the Titans take a chance and put someone like Sen'Derrick Marks on the practice squad? Almost any move they make would mean they''d lose a good young player who fits into their future plans.
I remember Albert from his last time here. I've talked to him several times; I like the guy. He could make the line better - when he plays - but right now that D-line and the team chemistry look pretty good.
